The Restaurant

The welcome in Pro Infirmis' restaurant Vallemaggia is cordial and the service attentive. The food provided is healthy and balanced. A team of professionals works with the staff benefiting from disability pensions, who are mainly occupied with service and the kitchen. Particular attention is paid to the ingredients: fresh, regional and mostly organic products prepared with creativity and passion. The contact between professionals, disabled staff and customers creates conditions conducive to interaction and inclusion. We have a dining room for 80 people, a large terrace under the shade of a century-old camphor tree, and a cosy bar.

The Chef

Gérard Perriard is a renowned chef of great talent and international acclaim.

He was born in Canton Neuchâtel in 1948 into a family of restaurateurs—the last of eleven siblings and the only one to have pursued a career as a chef. After completing his apprenticeship, Gérard worked in Pontresina (Switzerland) and Germany. His career in the Ticino began at Hotel La Palma in Locarno in 1971: There he worked for seven years before moving to Paris, where he discovered nouvelle cuisine at Taillevent. He developed a deep passion for cuisine, which gave him the opportunity to discover and work with a few great chefs of the time, including Troisgros and Girardet.

Later he returned to the Ticino and was hired as a chef at Restaurant Le Coq d'Or in Locarno, where he introduced an innovative cuisine that was little known in our part of the world. He brought with him a great deal of enthusiasm, investing efforts which soon paid off with great success, earning him his first Michelin star and 17/20 Gualt Millau points. In 1981, he decided to open a restaurant of his own, namely the prestigious Centenario Restaurant: This marked a new era in Swiss cuisine and earnt him a second Michelin star, making him the first multi-starred chef in the Ticino.

In 2007, after managing the Centenario for 25 years, he was presented with an opportunity to embark on a new community-based adventure. So it was that he decided to put his experience at the service of integration and socialization and join Ristorante Vallemaggia, currently managed by Pro Infirmis Ticino. Here, Gérard Perriard combines excellence and simplicity in a simple, well-executed cuisine for lunchtime menus and the more refined culinary creations of Thursday and Friday evenings.

The kitchen

At midday we offer a simple daily meat or fish dish, a vegetarian dish and a small menu choice. On Thursday and Friday evenings we offer a refined menu created specially by the chef, accompanied by a carefully selected wine list. For banquets and special occasions, we concoct a personalised menu.

The refreshment bar

A small team from the Vallemaggia restaurant runs the refreshment bar of the Training and Apprenticeship Department (DFA) of the SUPSI (University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland). The bar serves drinks all day and proposes a self-service buffet at midday. This environment facilitates daily contact between our staff, the students and the teachers, and proves to be particularly enriching and stimulating for all those involved.

Casa Vallemaggia

The Casa Vallemaggia, managed by Pro Infirmis, offers persons with disabilities the possibility of gaining experience, expressing and affirming themselves in various contexts such as work, habitat, relations and social contacts.
